On Monday 14th August at 11.00a.m I visited Stafford Library to enjoy story time. The staff made me very welcome, and the area I sat in was decorated as a fish pond, which was appropriate for the Adventures of Gummy the Goldfish! I should add that the library did not do this just for me, it is how the children's section is set up.
I was joined, initially by about half a dozen children and their moms who, whilst not wanting to sit still for too long,( the children not the moms that is ) enjoyed the colouring sheets I had taken. There were, eventually, about a dozen children of varying ages colouring, listening and enjoying the water feature stage, with its stepping stones and fish decoration. One of the young people there was a member of the Beaver Scout Colony I help to run, she was there , with her brother, who is in our Scout troop, and her previously purchased book which I was happy to dedicate to her and her brother.
Monday 21st August was a repeat of Monday 14th, but at my local library in Stone, Staffordshire. Again, I was made very welcome and this time I had a warm up act on before me. Toni was doing the story time slot prior to me going on at 11.00a.m. I was very pleased to meet up with an ex work colleague who I hadn't seen since I retired in 2010. He had come along to buy a copy of my book and have it dedicated to himself! Never too old to enjoy a children's story book eh, John aged 58? Also there was a member of the team with whom I play walking football, there to purchase a copy of my book for his granddaughter. Thank you gentlemen.
Once again my audience of around 15 young people sat and listened patiently. They even gave me a round of applause after each story. My time ended far too soon, and I left the last few children with their colouring sheets.
Thanks must go to the Library service in Staffordshire for making me welcome, and for putting on events for young readers.
